Pyrolysis Temperature Tunes the Catalytic Properties of CuBTC-Derived Carbon-Embedded Copper Catalysts for Partial Hydrogenation

A family of carbon-embedded copper catalysts was synthesized by pyrolyzing benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate (Cu-BTC) at various temperatures ranging from 400 to 900 °C. Characterization demonstrated that the density defect sites on carbon support increases with an increase in pyrolysis temperature leading electron sites. Catalytic performance tests 1,3-butadiene hydrogenation showed becomes more stable as above 800 °C such catalyst prepared provided a for than 12 h, while one deactivating >25%. Data further strong dependence turnover frequencies site carbonaceous layer. These results present versatile approach preparing tunable electronic structure and consequent catalytic properties.
